Algiers, February 14, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed Algeria’s support for the efforts led by the United Nations to reach a just, lasting, practical, and mutually acceptable political solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people their right to self-determination.
He stressed that this position is in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, underlining the importance of continued constructive engagement in the UN-led political process. He also expressed support for the role played by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, contributing to the strengthening of peace, security, and stability in the region.
These remarks were delivered in a speech presented on his behalf by Algerian Prime Minister Seifi Ghrieb during the proceedings of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union, while discussing the report of the Peace and Security Council on the state of peace and security in Africa.
