Canary Islands Parliamentary Group reaffirms commitment to supporting Sahrawi cause

Canary Islands (Spain), February 12, 2026 (SPS) – The Canary Islands Parliamentary Group in Support of the Sahrawi People held Wednesday a meeting, at the headquarters of the Canary Islands Parliament on the island of Tenerife, with the participation of representatives from all parties and political groups represented in the regional parliament of the Canary Islands.

The meeting was attended by the Polisario Front Representative in the Canary Islands, Ali Salem Sidi Zein, as well as the President of the Canary Association of Friendship with the Sahrawi People, Alberto Negrín.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue. The Polisario Front representative delivered a detailed presentation on recent developments in the Sahrawi people’s struggle at both the national and international levels, particularly in light of the preparations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Canary Islands Parliamentary Group reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting and standing with the Sahrawi people in their pursuit of freedom and independence under the leadership of their legitimate representative, the Polisario Front.

The group also stressed the importance of strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Canary and Sahrawi peoples and developing areas of joint cooperation, especially in light of the current circumstances and challenges facing the Sahrawi cause.
