Gaborone (Botswana), 30 January 2026 (SPS) – Mr. El Hiba Abbas presented his credentials to the President of Botswana, Duma Gideon Boko, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sahrawi Republic to Botswana.
During the reception held at the President’s office, President Duma Gideon Boko expressed his pride in the level of historical relations between the Republic of Botswana and the Sahrawi Republic, reaffirming Botswana’s steadfast support for the Sahrawi people and their legitimate right to freedom and self-determination.
The President of Botswana added: “Botswana stands firmly with the Sahrawi people in their quest to determine their destiny and build their independent state,” stressing his country’s determination to continue supporting the achievement of the legitimate aspirations of the Sahrawi people in international forums.
For his part, Ambassador El Hiba Abbas expressed his deep gratitude for Botswana’s consistent and supportive stance toward the Sahrawi people’s choice, affirming that this principled African solidarity constitutes a fundamental pillar in the struggle for freedom and justice.
He also emphasized the depth and strength of the relations of friendship and solidarity between the Sahrawi Republic and Botswana, expressing his aspiration to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in a manner that serves just causes on the African continent.
