Awsard Wilaya, January 16 2026 (SPS) – A European parliamentary delegation led by Member of Parliament from the Podemos party, Ms. Irene Montero, arrived in the Sahrawi refugee camps as part of a visit to the institutions of the Sahrawi State to find out about the struggle of the Sahrawi people.
Upon the delegation’s arrival in the wilaya of Awsard, they were received by the regional popular council of the wilaya, headed by National Secretariat member Ms. Khaira Bulahi Abad. The delegation was also warmly welcomed by the local authorities and the population of the wilaya in a public reception aimed at expressing appreciation for the delegation and highlighting its supportive stance toward the just Sahrawi cause.
In her address on the occasion, Ms. Irene Montero thanked the Sahrawi authorities and people for the warm reception, affirming her solidarity with the just Sahrawi cause and the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people.
She also expressed regret over the shameful positions adopted by some European Union countries regarding the Sahrawi issue, reiterating her continued support for the Sahrawi people until they achieve self-determination and independence.
In the same context, the delegation visited regional facilities in the wilaya, including the school for special needs and the district of Agouinit.
The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Sahrawi Red Crescent, where they were received by the institution’s president, Mr. Bouhbini Yahya. During the visit, they were informed about the humanitarian situation of Sahrawi refugees and their urgent needs in various aspects of daily life, particularly at a time marked by reductions in budgets and programs.
The delegation visited the Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) program headquarters and the vegetable distribution center, where detailed explanations and briefings were provided on their working mechanisms.
