Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), November 12, 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic took part yesterday in the Annual Laboratory Forum held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The event was organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and saw wide participation from experts, researchers, and representatives of health institutions from across the continent.

The forum aimed to discuss ways to strengthen the capacities of African laboratories and support the sustainability of diagnostic and health surveillance services, especially in light of the significant decline in Official Development Assistance (ODA) and the accompanying financial challenges that may impact public health systems.

The discussions highlighted the role of expanded diagnostics, genome sequencing, and wastewater surveillance in improving rapid response capabilities to disease outbreaks.

The forum witnessed the launch of the African Pathogen Genomics Data Sharing Platform (AGARI), which aims to enhance real-time data sharing among member states.

The Sahrawi Republic was represented at the African forum—held from November 13, 2025—by Ms. Tekber Ahmed El Qaed Saleh, Head of the Central Department of Medical Analysis Laboratories at the Ministry of Public Health and the official in charge of the African Union portfolio within the ministry.
