Algiers, October 3, 2025 (SPS) – The Special Advisor to the President of the Republic, Mr. Oubi Bucharaya Bashir, affirmed that the new UN Security Council resolution on Western Sahara represents proof of the failure of the Moroccan occupation to “collect the deferred price of its normalization with Israel in 2020.”

He noted that the resolution “reaffirmed the legal nature of the Sahrawi cause as a decolonization issue that can only be resolved through the Sahrawi people’s exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.”

In an interview with the Algerian newspaper El-Massa in its issue published Monday, November 3, 2025, the Sahrawi official said the recent resolution entrenched the failure of Rabat and its allies to push through the French- and American-supported stance backing the autonomy proposal under alleged Moroccan sovereignty. He clarified that Morocco “sought through the resolution to impose a closed negotiation framework that excludes the core of the issue, which is self-determination.”

Mr. Oubi Bucharaya Bashir pointed out that the UN resolution preserved the legal reference of the conflict and reaffirmed that “the question of Western Sahara remains a decolonization issue governed by international law and the UN Charter.”

He added that “the legal position of the Sahrawi cause remains strong and protected thanks to the firm positions of the United Nations, the African Union, the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as international courts such as the International Court of Justice, and the European and African courts.”
