Beirut (Lebanon), October 27, 2025 (SPS) — The Arab Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People has called on the United Nations Security Council to assume its legal, historical, and moral responsibilities regarding the issue of Western Sahara, and to adopt a fair resolution that would put an end to the Sahrawi people's suffering, which has lasted for more than half a century.
In a statement issued Monday from Beirut, the Committee affirmed that it, along with millions of free people around the world, is closely following the Security Council’s deliberations on the Sahrawi issue. It expressed hope that the upcoming UN resolution would be marked by a sense of responsibility and adherence to the principles of international law and UN resolutions related to decolonization.
The statement stressed that the issue of Western Sahara is not a regional dispute, but rather a decolonization case, classified by the United Nations as one concerning the exercise of peoples’ inalienable right to self-determination.
The statement further emphasized that the continued Moroccan occupation of Sahrawi territories constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
