Shaheed El Hafed, October 5, 2025 (SPS) – European farmers and cattle breeders have reacted with outrage and strong criticism towards the new agricultural agreement signed with Morocco, denouncing the European Union's agricultural policies.
They expressed frustration that the new deal, which they labeled as illegal, also violates the court ruling that invalidated the previous agreement for including products from Western Sahara.
The farmers lament that even the Parliament was not consulted. The new agreement extends trade advantages to products originating from Western Sahara, despite the Court of Justice of the European Union having declared this illegal a year ago.
In statements to El Independiente, Andrés Góngora, a representative of COAG, said that his organization is already preparing legal actions to bring before the Court of Justice of the EU. "It is there that we will appeal again to prevent this gravely unjust act from moving forward," he warned.
The CJEU had already invalidated the now-modified agreement last year (on October 4, 2024), ruling that Western Sahara, a former Spanish province occupied by Morocco since 1975, is a separate and distinct territory from Morocco.
The Polisario Front, after rejecting the new agreement between the European Union and Morocco, has pledged to use all legal means to defend the rights of the Sahrawi people.
In a statement released this Friday, the Polisario Front also announced that it will challenge this agreement, which replaces the 2018 deal that was annulled by rulings from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
