
Algiers, September 29, 2025 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers, Omar Taghjout, expressed a firm position in support of the struggle of the Sahrawi people and their legitimate rights to freedom and independence, during his reception of the Secretary-General of the Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Río de Oro (UGTSARIO), Nafei Ahmed Mohamed, at the headquarters of the central union of Algerian workers.
The discussion focused on exploring ways and means to enhance cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations between the two parties, ahead of the upcoming stages, in order to bolster trade union diplomacy.
This meeting marks the beginning of a tour undertaken by the Sahrawi workers' Secretary-General in preparation for forthcoming events, aimed at intensifying efforts to defend the just struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence, and raising international public awareness about the sufferings of the Sahrawi people.
The two parties also addressed the issue of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, particularly trade unionists, who are serving heavy sentences ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment for their involvement in organizing the Gdeim Izik protest camp.
It is recalled that the two unions share a partnership and cooperation agreement, as well as a long history of bilateral relations at all levels.
