Abduction of eight Sahrawi students in Agadir amid escalating repression against university activists

Agadir (Morocco), September 26, 2025 (SPS) - The Martyr Abdel Rahim Bedri site at Ibn Zohr University in Agadir on Friday witnessed a new repressive campaign targeting Sahrawi students. The Moroccan occupation authorities kidnapped eight students in a move described as retaliatory, following their peaceful activities and political positions in support of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence.

According to student sources, the following individuals were kidnapped: Salahuddin Sabbar (son of the martyr and human rights activist Ibrahim Sabbar), Ibrahim Babait, Bashir Lagweizi, Hafed Birlman, Noureddine Amflous, Hamza Layichi, Hansali Othman, Ayoub Laaradi.

The same sources reported that the abductees were subjected to maltreatment and had their phones confiscated, in an attempt to silence free voices and break the spirit of struggle within the university.
