Shaheed El-Hafed, September 21, 2025 (SPS) - The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, held a working session today, Sunday, with members of the Sahrawi leadership at the guesthouse in Shaheed El-Hafed.

The talks provided an opportunity for the Sahrawi side to inform de Mistura of the position of the Sahrawi leadership, which is based on a single principle: enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, as guaranteed by international laws and covenants.

In this regard, a member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, the representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations and the coordinator with MINURSO, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, stated in a declaration to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS) that this is de Mistura's fifth visit to the Sahrawi side as part of the verbal briefing he will present to the Security Council. He reiterated, in this context, the legal framework of the Sahrawi issue as a decolonization matter and emphasized the necessity of achieving a peaceful and just solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people's exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar also affirmed that the UN-African Union Settlement Plan, accepted by both parties to the conflict—the Polisario Front and the occupying state of Morocco—is the practical and reasonable framework for completing the decolonization of Western Sahara through a free, fair, and impartial referendum.
