Shaheed El-Hafed, September 21, 2025 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, received Thursday the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, at the conclusion of his visit to the Sahrawi party. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic reaffirmed the Polisario Front's continued cooperation with the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union to achieve a peaceful, just, and lasting solution to decolonize Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa. This is to be done in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, its resolutions, the objectives and principles of the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and the relevant rules of international law.
In this context, the President of the Republic reiterated the Polisario Front's readiness to engage constructively and positively in the UN-sponsored peace process in Western Sahara.
He further emphasized that the only path to achieving a peaceful, just, and lasting solution lies in the Sahrawi people exercising their inalienable, non-negotiable, and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence, freely and democratically. He reaffirmed that any solution that does not respect the will of the Sahrawi people is utterly unacceptable, warning that such a solution could pose a grave danger to peace, security, and stability throughout the entire region.
The President of the Republic called upon the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to take all necessary measures to enable and support the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to fully implement its mandate and conduct a free and fair referendum under UN supervision to complete the decolonization of Western Sahara.
