Bremen (Germany), September 2, 2025 (SPS) - The Social Democratic Party (SPD) in German state of Bremen has adopted a resolution affirming the right of Western Sahara to independence through a free and fair referendum under United Nations supervision.
The resolution reiterates the party's solidarity with the Sahrawi people in its struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
The resolution, ratified during the party's extraordinary conference, states that the Sahrawi people have been deprived of its legitimate right to self-determination since the occupation of the territory in 1975.
It further notes that Sahrawi people continue to suffer from marginalization and ongoing human rights violations, despite international decisions and rulings supporting their rights.
The party called on the German government to commit to implementing the rulings of the European Court of Justice issued on October 4, 2024, and to make them a cornerstone of European policy regarding this issue.
