Boumerdès, August 6, 2025 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) Party, Mr. Abdelkrim Benmebarek, reiterated his party’s unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle for self-determination and independence during his address at the Summer University for Polisario Front and Sahrawi State executives on Wednesday.
Mr. Benmebarek emphasized that the FLN has always been the natural and historical ally of the Sahrawi people and all nations fighting for freedom and independence against colonialism and occupation.
"When it comes to just causes in the world—foremost among them the decolonization of Western Sahara and Palestine—we stand firmly behind legitimate rights enshrined in all international charters and resolutions," he declared.
He added that the people of Western Sahara demand nothing but their rightful self-determination, stressing, "It is they who must decide their own future."
The FLN Secretary-General affirmed that a referendum is an inalienable right recognized by all international conventions on the self-determination of colonized peoples. "In Algeria, we waged a liberation war against brutal colonialism, sacrificing one and a half million martyrs to achieve victory," he stated.
"From this platform, we call on all free peoples of the world to employ every means to end colonial oppression and occupation, particularly for the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples," Benmebarek added.
"Yes, when it comes to the principle of self-determination for colonized nations, Algeria has consistently led the global call for independence and freedom from colonialism," he said. "We advocate for a world of peace, international security, development, and prosperity for all—a commitment that has earned Algeria leadership roles in regional and international institutions pursuing these noble goals."
The FLN Secretary-General was received by a delegation including Mr. Mrabih Mami, member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat, head of the Summer University, as well as Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria Mr. Khatri Adouh.
