
Algiers, July 20, 2025 (SPS) – Algeria and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their support for the Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination and independence.
This came during a joint press conference by the Algerian and Zimbabwean presidents during the state visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Algeria.
In this context, the Zimbabwean president reiterated his country’s steadfast support for the Sahrawi people and their just cause as a matter of decolonization.
For his part, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that the meeting emphasized support for the just cause of the Sahrawi people as the last decolonization issue in Africa, noting, "We reaffirmed our backing for UN efforts to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination."
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, noting a complete alignment in their positions, particularly regarding support for peaceful conflict resolution in Africa, respect for state sovereignty, rejection of foreign interference, and the preference for African solutions to African problems.
