New York (United Nations), 29 June 2025 (SPS) –Interviewed by Sahara Press Service (SPS) today, Member of the National Secretariat and Representative of the Frente POLISARIO at the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO, Dr Sidi Mohamed Omar, stressed that desperation is what leads Morocco, the occupying state, to intensify its hostile campaigns against the Sahrawi people, demonstrating once again that the occupying state is a rogue state that continues to practice state terrorism against Sahrawi civilians in Occupied Western Sahara.

The statement came in the backdrop of the frenzied campaign carried out by Morocco, the occupying state, with the aim of tarnishing the image of the struggle of the people of Western Sahara, where the occupying state is relying on the services of lobbyists and “mercenaries” disguised as “analysts” to propagate unfounded claims about the Frente POLISARIO and the legitimate resistance of the Sahrawi people to Morocco’s illegal occupation of their country.

The Sahrawi diplomat noted that these claims are so baseless and preposterous that dozens of renowned figures and specialists around the world have taken the initiative toexpose the ulterior motives of Morocco, the occupying state, and denounces its hostile campaigns against the Sahrawi people. A case in point is John Bolton, former National Security Adviser to President Donald Trump and former U.S.Ambassador to the United Nations.

Interviewed by the online “Otralectura”, John Bolton broached the propaganda campaign carried out by Morocco, the occupying state, and its supporters against the Sahrawi people, stressing that it shows how desperate is the occupying state, which still opposes the referendum because it fears its outcome. He noted that Moroccans act with impunity because the Security Council has chosen to look the other way.

As someone who has visited the Sahrawi refugee camps and worked on the Sahrawi dossier with former U.S. Secretary of State, James Baker III, Bolton underlined that the claims about the relationship of the Frente POLISARIO with “certain quarters” are unfounded. He reaffirmed the need for the referendum to be held so that the Sahrawi people could vote and decide their future freely.

The Sahrawi diplomat recalled that it is Morocco, the occupying state, which is the only party responsible for igniting and fuelling its ongoing war of aggression against the Sahrawi people since 13 November 2020 when its forces invaded the Liberated Sahrawi Territories in blatant violation of Security Council resolutions, the 1991 ceasefire agreement and related military agreements.

He added that the attempts by Morocco, the occupying state, to create new facts on the ground, which are reported by the UN Secretary-General in his report dated 1 October 2021, constitute the undeniable root causes of the “the breakdown of the ceasefire” recognised by the Security Council in its resolutions since 2021.

The Sahrawi diplomat indicated that, since their breach of the ceasefire on 13 November 2020, the Moroccan occupying forces have been using all types of sophisticated weapons, including uncrewed aerial vehicles, to callously kill and seriously injure, not only hundreds of Sahrawi civilians, but also civilians of neighbouring countries in transit through the Liberated Sahrawi Territories. He added that there is no doubt that the Moroccan occupying forces have committed war crimes in their new act of aggression against the Sahrawi people, crimes for which the occupying state must be held accountable.

In conclusion, the Representative of the Frente POLISARIO at the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSOstressed that no matter how Morocco, the occupying state, intensifies its hostile campaigns against the Sahrawi people, the will of our people is unconquerable and they will continue their legitimate struggle and resistance to ensure the fulfilment of their non-negotiable national aspirations for freedom and independence and the reestablishment of the sovereignty over the entire Territory of the Sahrawi Republic.
