Basque Region (Spain), June 2, 2025 (SPS) – A delegation from the General Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) took part in the proceedings of the 16th Congress of the Basque trade union ELA.
Representing UGTSARIO at this significant trade union event was a delegation comprising Ms. Fatima Brahim Salem Khatri, Deputy Representative of the Polisario Front in the Basque Region, and Mr. Mohamed Fal Sid’Ahmed, a representative of the Sahrawi community.
Participants in the Congress emphasized the need to intensify efforts and stand in solidarity with the just struggle of the Sahrawi people, condemning the Moroccan occupation and its human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara—particularly the suffering of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.
They also called on all trade union organizations to play a pivotal role in raising awareness about the Sahrawi cause across various platforms and media, while supporting both the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples, the latter of whom also endure injustice and genocide.
The ELA trade union maintains a partnership and cooperative relationship with UGTSARIO, formalized through a bilateral agreement that underscores the longstanding ties between the two organizations.
