Nouakchott (Mauritania), May 30, 2025 (SPS) — His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, received Mr. Hamma Salama, Speaker of the National Council (Parliament), at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott on Friday.
Mr. Hamma Salama delivered a written message from his brother, His Excellency Mr. Brahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front.
Following the meeting, the Speaker of the National Council made a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, expressing his honor at meeting President Ghazouani and conveying the written message from President Brahim Ghali.
He added that discussions with the Mauritanian President focused on issues of mutual interest, ways to strengthen the deep fraternal ties between the two peoples, and enhancing cooperation, consultation, and coordination between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Sahrawi Republic.
Mr. Hamma Salama noted that President Ghazouani entrusted him with a message of friendship and brotherhood for President Brahim Ghali. He also took the opportunity to congratulate the Mauritanian President and people on the success of Mauritania’s candidate, Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, as President of the African Development Bank.
The meeting was attended on the Mauritanian side by Mr. Nani Ould Achrougha, the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdallah Ould Othman, Minister-Counselor to the Presidency of the Republic, Brigadier General Seydou Samba Dia, Director General of External Security and Documentation.
On the Sahrawi side, it was attended by Mr. Lahou Daf, Commander of the Third Military Regiment, Mr. Hamma Malou, National Director of Security, Documentation, and Institutional Protection, Mr. Taleb Ami Deh, Chief of Operations Staff at the Ministry of National Defense, Mr. Salek Bobeh, Minister-Counselor to the Presidency of the Republic.
