
June 9 School, May 28, 2025 (SPS) – A parliamentary delegation from Spain’s La Rioja region, representing the solidarity movement with the Sahrawi people across various political factions, held a meeting today, Wednesday, with Mr. Hamma Salama, member of the National Secretariat, President of the Sahrawi National Council, at the council’s headquarters.
The discussions focused on the latest developments in the national cause and ways to strengthen cooperation in parliamentary work. Members of the Spanish delegation also participated in a plenary session of the Sahrawi National Council, dedicated to reviewing aspects of solidarity between the Sahrawi Parliament and the Parliament of La Rioja.
The President of the National Council welcomed the Spanish delegation, praising the solidarity movement among various political forces and civil society organizations that support the Sahrawi cause. He also provided a comprehensive briefing on the council’s work and the importance of activating parliamentary diplomacy to enhance inter-parliamentary relations and raise awareness about the Sahrawi cause in various Spanish parliamentary forums.
The head of the Spanish parliamentary delegation affirmed her ongoing efforts to increase political and humanitarian support for the Sahrawi people, including pushing for recommendations within the La Rioja Parliament to back the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination and freedom. She also reiterated her commitment to working with the Spanish Cooperation Agency to continue the "Holidays in Peace" program, which supports Sahrawi children, and to provide humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Sahrawi people in various fields.
The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Labat Mustafa, the Polisario Front representative in La Rioja.
