Istanbul (Turkey), May 24, 2025 (SPS) – A delegation from the Polisario Front is taking part in the Socialist International Council meeting, hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, from May 23 to 25.
The morning session, held under the theme "United for the World We Deserve – A Global Vision for Values and Solidarity", opened with speeches by the Socialist International Presidency before moving to a discussion on "Protecting Democracy in the Digital World." The debate addressed the growing challenges facing democratic systems amid rising disinformation and digital media manipulation.
This event provides an opportunity for the Sahrawi delegation to amplify the voice of the Sahrawi people, reaffirm their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, and urge progressive forces to uphold their political and moral responsibilities in supporting struggles against colonialism—particularly the cause of Western Sahara, which remains under occupation.
The Sahrawi delegation includes Ambassador Mansour Omar, Member of the National Secretariat, Polisario Representative for Europe and European Institutions, Amih Omar, Polisario Front Representative in Portugal, Sidi Abreika, Polisario Front Representative in the United Kingdom, Abeida Mohamed Bouzid, Polisario Front Representative in Denmark.
