Sahrawi Foreign Minister receives UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara at the Polisario Mission in Brussels

Brussels (Belgium), May 21, 2025 (SPS) – The Foreign Minister of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, held a meeting on Thursday with Mr. Staffan de Mistura, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, at the Polisario Front’s Mission in Brussels, following the participation of a high-level Sahrawi delegation in the third African Union-European Union ministerial meeting held in Brussels from 19 to 21 May 2025.

The meeting served as an opportunity for both parties to exchange views on the latest developments concerning the conflict in Western Sahara, particularly within the United Nations framework, and on ongoing efforts to implement international legality and relevant UN resolutions related to the decolonization of this last colony in Africa.

During the meeting, the Sahrawi Foreign Minister reaffirmed the firm position of the Sahrawi Republic and the Polisario Front, stressing the urgent need to revitalize the OAU-UN process and to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

Attending the meeting on the Sahrawi side, alongside the Foreign Minister, were Amb. Mansour Omar, in charge of Europe and European institutions, and Mr. Basiri Lebsir, member of the Polisario representation in Europe.

The meeting took place within an important diplomatic context that reflects the Sahrawi Republic’s engagement in both African and European platforms, reaffirming its commitment to a just and peaceful solution based on respect for international law, United Nations resolutions, and the will of the Sahrawi people and respect for their sovereignty over their homeland and natural resources.

A high-level Sahrawi diplomatic delegation had participated in the third AU-EU ministerial meeting from May 19 to 21, led by the Sahrawi Foreign Minister, accompanied by Amb. Mansour Omar, in charge of Europe and European institutions, Amb. Lamine Baali, the Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union; and Amb. Malainin Muftah, Polisario Representative in Belgium. (SPS)
