Addis Ababa, 17 December 2023 (SPS) - The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of the Sahrawi Republic, represented by the Advisor in charge of African Union Affairs, Hamdi Salek Did, participated in the work of the meeting to launch the review report of the African Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy 2024, on December 14, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting, which was attended by officials from the relevant ministries of the member states of the African Union and experts in the field of science, technology, and innovation, adopted critical inputs in the ongoing review of the African Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy 2024. These inputs were incorporated, and the final report of the African Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy 2024 is now ready, awaiting presentation to the Ministers of Education of the member states for their endorsement and adoption for a new African strategy for 2024-2034.
It should be recalled that the Sahrawi Ministry of Education and Vocational Training participated in the consultative meeting on the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa 2024-2034, organized by the Commission of the African Union on November 7-8, 2023, in Cape Town, South Africa.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the ministries of science, technology and innovation in member states, the technical offices of the African Commission, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and the Office of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, regional economic bodies, actors in the field of science, technology and innovation, the private sector, universities, and research institutions.
The representative of the Sahrawi Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Advisor in Charge of African Union Affairs, Hamdi Salek Al-Did, had interventions on the topics raised for discussion at the level of thematic workshops and plenary sessions. He also had meetings with some participants on the sidelines of this event, which focused on the experience of education in the Sahrawi Republic.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa is the African Union's plan to benefit of the power of science, technology and innovation to accelerate social and economic transformation in Africa. The African Union Heads of State and Government adopted the first strategy in June 2014, and it is in line with the African Union Agenda 2063, which envisions an “integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa” by 2063.
