Sahrawi Ambassador in Botswana affirms war in Western Sahara is open to all possibilities

Gaborone (Botswana) Jan 19, 2021 (SPS) - The Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic in Botswana, Mr. Malainin Lakhal, affirmed that “the renewed war in Western Sahara is open to all possibilities after the violation by Morocco of the truce that has prevailed for thirty years and its attempt to attack Sahrawi civilians in the illegal breach of El Guerguerat ”.

Trump's decision still under review

Washington, 18 January 2021 (SPS) - Donald Trump’s recent decision to recognize the so-called Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and other last-minute changes relating to US foreign policy are still under review, and Joe Biden's administration will deliver a verdict based exclusively on one criterion, that of the country's national interest, reports the Washington Post, citing a senior official in Biden's transition team.

Sahrawi Army continues attacks against Moroccan forces for 66th day

Bir Lahlou, 18 January 2021 (SPS) - The Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) continued its attacks against the positions and entrenchments of the Moroccan occupation forces, behind the Wall of Shame, for the 66th consecutive day, a statement from the Sahrawi Ministry of Defence said on Sunday.

Algerian-South African Joint Declaration in line with AU demands

Pretoria (South Africa), 18 January 2021 (SPS) - Sahrawi Ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat said that the Joint Declaration of Algeria and South Africa was in line with the requirements of the African Union (AU) regarding the need to meet the minimum conditions, namely Resolution 690 and the organization of the referendum to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara.

Boukadoum African tour: AU’s role in settling Sahrawi issue confirmed

Algiers, 18 January 2020 (SPS) – Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum made last week a tour to Africa in which a great convergence of views and positions was noted with the African leaders concerning the different regional and international issues of common interest, notably on the role of the African Union (AU) in the political settlement of the conflict of Western Sahara.
After South Africa, Lesotho and Angola, Boukadoum visited Kenya as a prelude to the 34th AU Summit that will be held in February.

German government position on Western Sahara, "constant and unchanging"

Berlin, 18 January 2020 (SPS) – Polisario Front representative in Germany Najat Handi said on Saturday that the German government’s position, in line with international law concerning the Sahrawi cause is "constant and unchanging."
In a statement to APS, the Sahrawi diplomat said that Germany’s position with regard to the Sahrawi question was clear, officially expressed by German representative to the UN Christoph Heusgen, during last December’s Security Council consultations on Western Sahara.

Morocco recognizing Western Sahara, admission of opposing party’s existence

Bir Lehlou, 10 January 2021 (SPS) - Sahrawi Liberation Army (SPLA) has continued its attacks against the positions of the Moroccan occupation Army along the sand wall, the Sahrawi ministry of Defense said Saturday in the military communiqué n° 58.
After targeting numerous positions of Moroccan occupation soldiers over the past week, and which left some of their bases in ruins on Friday, the Saharawi Army’s vanguards launched a "devastating bombardment on positions of the Moroccan royal army entrenched in Miran, in the area of Smara."

Washington,  10 January 2021 (SPS) - Joe Biden can backtrack on the decision of outgoing US President Donald Trump on recognizing so-called Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara without "strategic consequences," said three US academics in an article published in the American magazine Foreign Policy.
