UN envoy for Western Sahara received by Mauritanian president in Nouakchott

Nouakchott (Mauritania), April 04, 2024 (SPS) - Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Sheikh El Ghazouani received on Wednesday the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.

The meeting was attended by the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, Mr. Ahmed Bahin, in charge of a mission at the Presidency of the Republic, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Mauritania, Ms. Leila Peters Yahya, according to the same source.

On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, received the UN diplomat.

According to the agency, the meeting discussed cooperation relations between Mauritania and the United Nations and ways to strengthen and develop them, in addition to issues of common interest.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Ms. Aliya Bint Yahya Mankous, and the Ambassador, Director of the United Nations and International Non-Governmental Organizations Office at the General Directorate for Multilateral Cooperation, Mr. Mokhtar Mbaba."
