Moscow, Russia, 12 March, 2024 (SPS) - Russia has reiterated its support for the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, in order to find a solution to the Western Sahara issue in accordance with UN resolutions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the prospects of the settlement process in Western Sahara with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, in Moscow.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, on its website, stated that the main focus of the meeting was on the status of the settlement process in Western Sahara. The Russian Foreign Ministry also highlighted the role played by the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara.
In addition, views were exchanged on the prospects for resuming the political process, taking into account de Mistura's recent contacts with all parties involved.
