UPES signs agreement with Peruvian Journalists’ Federation

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 5, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi Journalists and Writers’ Union (UPES) signed Tuesday a four-year cooperation agreement with the Federation of Journalists of Peru (FPP).


This agreement was signed at the end of a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps and liberated territories of Western Sahara by FPP’s President and deputy president of the Peruvian Council of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, Mr. Angel Sanchez Duenia, and UPES General-Secretary, Mr. Nafi Rayes.


The event was attended by member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat, Secretary General of the Saharawi Workers Union (UGTSARIO) Mr. Mohamed Shikh Mohamed Lehbib, the Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Information Mr. Lkhalil Mohamed Lamin and Secretary General of the Saharawi Jurists Union Mr. Abba Al-Haisen, in addition to members of executive bureau of UPES, as well as various Saharawi journalists and writers.


The agreement confirmed both parties’ commitment to defend the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, strengthen the joint action and exchange of information and experiences, and promote the nobel goals shared between the two organizations.


FPP vowed to work to lift the media siege imposed by Morocco on the occupied territories of Western Sahara and exert pressure to protect Saharawi journalists under Moroccan occupation. (SPS)
