February 20 Movement rallies in Paris to protest against repression in Morocco

Paris, June 6, 2011 (SPS) - The Moroccan February 20 Movement organized Sunday a demonstration in Paris to denounce the repression against the protesters in Morocco, who demanded political reforms, the French Press Agency (AFP) reported.

The participants, who gathered at Human Rights Square, raised pictures of Moroccan activists exposed to torture by the Moroccan security forces during demonstration held in several cities on May 22-29, 2011.

They also chanted anti-monarchy slogans like: “enough of misery and oppression”, “freedom and democracy to the Moroccan people" and "release the political prisoners in Morocco.”

They also staged outside Morocco’s embassy in Paris, where they delivered a statement strongly criticize the brutal repression against the demonstrations held on May 22-29, 2011 in several Moroccan cities.

“The demands of parliamentary royal, separation of powers and real social justice for the Moroccan people did not change,” Movement member underlined, adding “the Moroccan regime has shown its inability to respond to the young’s demands and through it aspirations of an entire people for freedom, dignity and social justice and democracy, when it replied by force, violence and repression"

On relevant context, coordinator in the Movement, Mohamed Jait, pointed that the Moroccan security forces has also arrested and abducted trade unionists, human rights activists and opponents during the demonstrations. (SPS)
