Uruguay renews support for right of Saharawi people to self-determination

Montevideo, June 25, 2011 (SPS) - Uruguayan Vice-President and President of the Senate, Mr. Danilo Astori, reiterated Friday the support of his country to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, during a meeting in Parliament’s headquarters with the Saharawi Ambassador in Montevideo, Mr.  Shaibani Abbas, and Presdient of the Uruguayan Association of Solidarity with the Saharawi people, Mr. Gomez Emiliano.

Mr. Astori pointed out to the strong bonds of solidarity and friendship between the Uruguay and Saharawi Republic, reaffirming willingness of the Uruguayan government to cooperate with the United Nations in order to allow the Saharawi people to exercise its right of self-determination.

From his part, the Saharawi ambassador briefed to the vice-president of Uruguay about situation of the Saharawi people and political developments in the region. He also addressed him a letter from the President of the Saharawi National Council, Mr. Khatri Addouh. (SPS)
