Brussels, Oct 25, 2011 (SPS) -The European Union (EU) condemned on Monday the kidnapping of three European aid workers on Saturday night when they were at the central reception of the foreign aid workers in the Saharawi refugee camps, calling on the kidnappers to release them immediately.

In a press conference held Monday in Brussels, Ms. Maja Kocijancic, foreign policy spokeswoman for the European Commission (EC), has strongly condemned the incident and appealed those responsible for this attack “to release the cooperators immediately, without causing any harm.”

The EU official said “European Commission is in touch with the Spanish and Italian authorities to follow the developments.”

She underlined that both governments are acting to resolve the situation, adding that EC “is working with all parties to ensure that it can act as quickly as possible.”

The three European cooperators, two Spaniards and one from Italy, belonging to international NGOs working in Saharawi refugee camps were kidnapped Saturday night by terrorist elements infiltrated from the neighboring Malian territories, confirmed Saharawi Ministry of Information. (SPS)
