Renewing the twining agreement between Central Algiers and Wilaya of El Aaiun

Algiers, Oct 30, 2011 (SPS) - The twinning protocol between Central Algiers Municipality and the Wilaya of El Aaiun renewed Saturday for the tenth year in a row, in the presence of the President of the Republic and the Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.

The protocol was signed by the Chairman of the Central Algiers’s People Assembly (APC), Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, and the Deputy Governor of El Alaiun, Ahmed Alien, in a ceremony organized on the sidelines of Algeria international conference on the peoples’ right to resistance: case of the Saharawi people.

Mr. Zitouni asserted, on the occasion, that the renewal of this twinning protocol “demonstrates the Algerian support and solidarity with the Saharawi cause and the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.”

He pointed out that the Protocol has given its fruits since its first signing in 2001 in various activities between the two parties particularly in the cultural, educational and sport aspect.

Speaking after the ceremony, the President of the Saharawi Republic welcomed the renewal of this twinning protocol, which allowed for the establishment of a strong relationship between the Municipality of Central Algiers and Wilaya of El Aaiun.

The President Mohamed Abdelaziz appreciated the success of the 2nd international conference on peoples' right to resistance, praising those who work to defend the peoples’ right to freedom, independence, dignity and democracy.

From his part, the President of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS), Mr. Mahrez Lamari, described the twinning as “the symbolic and important,” considering “it will strengthen the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Algeria and Western Sahara.” (SPS)
