Algiers, Oct 30, 2011 (SPS) - “Algeria will remain committed to the principle of supporting the inalienable right of Sahrawi people to self-determination,” said Saturday in Algeria capital Kamel Rezzag-Bara, founder member of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (CNASPS).

“Algeria will continue to supporting the fundamental right of the Saharawi people to self-determination through free, just and fair referendum,” Mr. Bara told Algeria Press Agency (APS) on the sidelines of the 2nd international conference on the peoples’ right to resistance: case of the Saharawi people.

He affirmed the need for the international community to comply with its founding principles such as equality between nations, right to self-determination and the freedom to choose their systems of governance.

The CNASPS member pointed out that Western Sahara is “the only case of the illegal occupation of a territory by another regime who exploit its wealth without real control and without putting an end to this looting,” adding that MINURSO is the only UN mission do not have the powers in the field of monitoring and respect for human rights.

With regard to recent abduction of 3 European aid workers in the Saharawi refugee camps, Mr. Bara said “the kidnapping of these hostages, which we condemn, reminds us that the Saharawi people is fighting against Moroccan occupation, but also against other forces (terrorist groups) that interfere to spread ambiguity in the path of their struggle.” (SPS)
