El Aaiun (occupied territories), Nov 2, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupying forces have launched fierce campaign since Thursday against a number of peaceful demonstrations organized by the Saharawi citizens on occasion of visit of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross to occupied Western Sahara, a source from the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad told SPS.

The demonstrations staged at many streets including Matalaa, Tan Tan, Mazwar, Smara, Skeikima, Al-Quds, Arab Maghreb, Inach, Nadi al-hmar (red club), Ras Al-Khaima.

Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for self-determination and independence of the Saharawi people. They also raised slogans of the Saharawi Republic.

The same source said that these acts of repression left more than 40 injured among the Saharawi demonstrators, including human rights activists received Thursday at MINURSO headquarters by the UN Personal Envoy Christopher Ross.

Moreover, 50 houses were raided and their inhabitants threatened.

The city still witnesses unprecedented security deployment of various Moroccan repression forces. (SPS)
