Human rights organizations calls for revoking of verdicts against Gdeim Izik detainees

Paris, April 2, 2013 (SPS) - Several international organizations of human rights have called for the cancellation of the convictions handed down by the Moroccan military court in Rabat on February 17th, 2013 against 25 Saharawi political prisoners, known as Gdeim Izik group.


In a joint statement, these associations called for “immediate” release of Saharawi human rights activists, adding that a new legal action will be taken.


The signatories on the statement are: the Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT), the Association for the Defence of Human Rights in Morocco (ASDHOM), the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL ), the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), the International Bureau for the respect of human rights in Western Sahara (BIRDSHO), the Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (CCFD), the International Commission Jurists (ICJ) and the Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples (MRAP).


The military court of Rabat sentenced to life in prison 9 defendants from Gdeim Izik group, 4 to 30 years imprisonment, 8 to 25 years and 2 other to 20 years. (SPS)
