International community must intervene to end Moroccan human rights violations in Western Sahara

Barranco (Peru), March 9, 2014 (SPS) The international community must intervene to prevent Morocco’s  continuous violations of human rights against Sahrawis in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara, said Ricardo Sánchez Serra, President of Peruvian Council of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (COPESA) in a statement, received by SPS.  
 
Mr. Serra, who was speaking at a conference in honor of Saharawi Women in the framework of the International Women's Day organized at the Municipal Library of Barranco, recalled "the condemnation of Morocco by the human rights organizations in the world for its aggression against the Saharawi civilians and accused it of ethnic cleansing perpetrated with impunity as a result of international indifference. "
 
He also stressed the need to provide the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in the Western Sahara (MINURSO) with a mechanism for monitoring and protecting human rights, during the meeting of the Security Council in April. 
 
For his part, Gary Ayala, vice president of the Christian Democrats, criticized "the policy of misinformation and media blackout imposed by Morocco on the Western Sahara and persecution and even executions of those who oppose Moroccan expansionist plans. " 
 
Speaking on this occasion, Nathaly Mandujano, journalist and secretary of COPESA women reviewed the important role of the Saharawi woman as a pillar of the society and the future of its people.
 
Finally, Andrew Ayala, a law student, expressed solidarity of Social Christian youth with the Sahrawi women and commitment to raise awareness for the Saharawi people. 
 
The conference was attended by the Ambassador of Algeria, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the countries of Latin America and the West as well as members of the Federation of Journalists of Peru and the Christian Democratic Party, it should be mentioned. (SPS)
