Preparatory committee for UESARIO congress holds its first meeting

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), July 4, 2014 (SPS) - The preparatory committee for the 2nd congress of the Saharawi Students Union (UESARIO) held Thursday at the prime ministry headquarters its first meeting.


Chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the meeting was attended by Mr. Salem Lebsir, head of the POLISARIO National Secretariat’s Political Organization, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, prime minister, Ahmed Lehbib, secretary general of UESARIO, as well as members of the government and national secretariat.


President Mohamed Abdelaziz stressed the pioneering role played by the Saharawi students in the war of liberation, mainly in the creation of the Polisario Front and raising the awareness of Saharawi masses during the era of Spanish colonization and in the face of the Moroccan invasion.


He, on other hand, highlighted that the Saharawi question is strongly present at the international and continental stage; a thing reinforced by the appointment of an African envoy for Western Sahara and AU leaders calling for speedy decolonization process in Western Sahara.


According to the Secretary General of the Saharawi Students Union Ahmed, the preparatory committee of the 2nd congress is composed of 6 students from the occupied territories of Western Sahara, 16 from the Saharawi refugee camps, 3 parliamentarians, 5 members of the executive board of the UESARIO, 5 from the national institutions and 5 former members of the UESARIO.
