Submitted on

Shaheed Hafed, September 8, 2014 (SPS) The Staff of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) reiterated the readiness of the units of the SPLA to defend any terrorist threat, in accordance with the commitments of the Saharawi State in its capacity as a full member of the AU, according to a statement sanctioning the work of a meeting of the SPLA General Staff held Sunday under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic and Supreme commander of the Armed Forces, Mohamed Abdelaziz.

The SPLA General Staff condemned the "aggressive policy" pursued by the Moroccan State of occupation through "flooding the region in the drug phenomenon and encouragement of organized crime and terrorist groups," the statement added.

It also launched an appeal to the international community to "immediately" intervene to ensure the necessary protection of Sahrawis, lift the siege imposed on the occupied territories of Western Sahara, stop the plunder of Saharawi natural resources and release all Saharawi political prisoners still languishing in Moroccan prisons.

Moreover, the SPLA General Staff reminded the United Nations of its responsibility in the decolonization of Western Sahara through a free, fair and impartial referendum to enable the Saharawi people to decide their own future. (SPS)
