Norwegian Conservative Youth urges government to work for protection of Saharawi human rights

Oslo, Sept 16, 2014 (SPS) - Youth League of Norway’s Conservative Party called Monday upon the Government to act in favour of the protection of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in a motion on Western Sahara adopted unanimously by its National Council.

The motion asked the Government of Norway to take a “public and frank” stance opposing France’s one which aims at undermining the protection of human rights in Western Sahara.

“The UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) still turns a blind eye to the grave violations of human rights taking place in the Territory, occupied by Morocco since 1975,” stated the motion.

It went on saying that the MINURSO’s lack of human rights component is a “fatal mistake that must be corrected without delay.”

Recalling to the UN Secretary General’s last report on Western Sahara, the Norwegian Conservative Youth said that there are more than 100 resolutions calling for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination. (SPS)
