Sahrawi organizations of human rights boycott World Forum on human rights held in Marrakech

 El Aaiun (occupied territories), November 24, 2014 (SPS) -The Saharawi associations and committees of human rights announced Monday their decision to boycott the second World Forum on Human Rights, scheduled  November 27-30, in Marrakech, Morocco, according to a statement a copy of it received by SPS.

 

 "The Moroccan State needs a real political will to break with the past serious human rights violations committed in Morocco and Western Sahara instead of marketing for reforms that were unsuccessful because of the serious breaches of freedom of expression, peaceful gathering and association and political, economic, social and cultural civil rights, which  Morocco has to respect, "warned the statement.

 

 The signatories called on the United Nations and the Council of Human Rights and the UN mechanisms for human rights and personalities participating in this forum, to exert pressure on the Moroccan government to make it "fulfills its international obligations in the field of human rights, " added the statement.

 

 They also demanded "the immediate release of all defenders of human rights and Moroccan and Saharawi political prisoners from various prisons in Morocco and Western Sahara, reveal the fate of disappeared Saharawis and deliver the dead bodies in the Moroccan secret centers, emphasizing the general context in which these gross human rights violations committed by the Moroccan State. "

 

The signatories are: CODESA, ASVDH, the Sahrawi Committee for the Support of United Nations settlement plan and protection of natural resources of Western Sahara (CPSRON), Sahrawi Committee for the victims of Megouna and Agdez prisons (Morocco) and El Aaiun (Western Sahara) (CCDVSKAL), Saharawi Committee for the families of missing persons, Forum for the Future of Sahrawi Women, Saharawi Committee of families of political prisoners (group Gdeim Izik).
