Political prisoners of Gdeim Izik group on hunger strike

Submitted on

Salé (Morocco), 11/12/2014 (SPS) - The group of political prisoners of Gdeim Izik announced Wednesday that they would go on hunger strike for 24 hours on Thursday in solidarity with their fellow mate, Saharawi political prisoner Embarek Daoudi, who is in a very critical health condition as a result of his long hunger strike.

The Gdeim Izik Group said in a statement to mark the World Human Rights Day that the occupied territories of Western Sahara are living under a military and media blockade, where Saharawi political prisoners are suffering all kinds of violations in prisons.

The statement stresses that the cells of the Saharawi prisoners have become places where all kinds of abuse, psychological warfare and even murder are practiced, as the case of Saharawi political prisoner, Hassana Eluali who was killed recently.

The group demanded in its statement the Moroccan government to open a fair and independent investigation into the torture he underwent in secret dungeons at the hands of the repressive apparatus of Moroccan gendarmerie and police.

They also asked the United Nations to exert pressure on the Moroccan government to release all Saharawi political prisoners. (SPS)
