Polisario Front welcomes late decision by AU Peace and Security Council

Smara (refugee camps), April 3, 2015 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz on Friday morning welcomed the recent concrete decisions taken by the African Union Peace and Security Council concerning the situation in Western Sahara.


President Mohamed Abdelaziz praised the concrete steps taken by the Council, including of which re-activating the ad hoc Committee of Heads of State and Government on the conflict in Western Sahara, establishing the International Contact Group for Western Sahara (ICG-WS) and to continue reviewing regularly the situation in the Territory.


He asked the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon to intensify cooperation and coordination between the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) on the question of Western Sahara, as was the case in Namibia and other African issues.


“The Saharawi state, founding members of the African Union, is a factor of stability and balance in the region. It is also effective contributor to constructive cooperation based on mutual respect with neighboring countries, the region and the entire world,” stated President Mohamed Abdelaziz, addressing the opening ceremony of the 7th congress of Saharawi Women Union.


He also reiterated the Saharawi Republic’s strict adherence to the requirements of the AU charter and international conventions.


He, therefore, expressed confidence that such higher degree of attention will positively contribute to expediting the search for a just and democratic solution, consistent with the charter and resolutions of the United Nations and African Union. (SPS)
