Rome, Nov 16, 2016 (SPS) - "The African Union (AU) should urge United Nations (UN) to implement its resolutions in favour of Western Sahara, including those relating to the right of peoples to self-determination," said Mr. Mr Magama Hargreaves Tisetso, member of the South Africa Parliament.

On the sidelines of the 38th European Conference for Coordination and Support of Saharawi people (EUCOCO), held in Rome, the South African parliamentarian underlined that these resolutions "has been in place for a long time, leaving only its application so to bring peace and security to the region."

Mr. Tisetso also denounced the violations of human rights in Western Sahara, calling for the establishment of a mechanism to monitor human rights within the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

"My country will continue to support the Saharawi cause and people in their peaceful struggle for independence," he added. (SPS)
