King Mohammed VI’s visit to Senegal ends up in failure

Submitted on

Dakar, May 26, 2015 (SPS) - The visit of Moroccan King, Mohammed VI, to Senegal was marked by two incidents that tarnished the image Moroccan government wanted to promote with regard to the relationship between the two countries.

In addition to the judicial follow-up against Karim Wade, Moroccan King’s close friend and the son of Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, two altercations occurred between the personal guards of the Moroccan King and those of Senegalese President Macky Sall.

The first incident took place upon Mohammed VI’s arrival in the airport, whereas the second occurred at the presidential palace in Senghor Avenue.

These two altercations were widely reported by Moroccan and Senegalese media.

Moreover, Ahmed Khalifa Niasse, Senegalese religious and political leader and former minister, has criticized, in an article published by the Senegalese website Ferloo, the ongoing stagnation in the relations between the two countries.

Niasse denounced the arrogance of Moroccan nationals working in the Moroccan banks established in Senegal, adding the so-called Moroccan private investors are indirectly robing Senegalese properties. (SPS)
