Submitted on

La Rioja (Spain) - The General Directorate of Citizenship and Human Rights in La Rioja has awarded human rights activist Sultana Sidi Brahim Khaya the Citizenship Award for Human Rights in La Rioja, Spain.
The award was granted to the icon of struggle, Sultana Khaia, in recognition of her peaceful resistance and defense of the rights of the Sahrawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, through the peaceful resistance that the activist carried out in the face of the barbaric Moroccan policy and harassment, violence and violations exercised against her and her family in the occupied city of Boujdour.
During the award ceremony, which took place at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Citizenship of the city of Logrono, Sultana Khaya thanked the organization, the regional government of La Rioja, UNESCO and Amnesty International for granting this award, which distinguishes the struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom in a high manner, which contradicts the barbaric and inhumane practices of the Moroccan occupation against the masses in the occupied Western Sahara, especially against activists and human rights defenders.
