Greek party reaffirms support for right of Sahrawi people to self-determination

Athens (Greece), 23 October 2022 (SPS) - The Greek Syriza party (the Coalition of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance) has reaffirmed its position in support of the Polisario Front and the struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence, calling on Morocco to respect its obligations in the process of a peaceful settlement approved by the United Nations in 1991 to organize a referendum on self-determination and accept its results.
This took place during a meeting between a delegation from the Polisario Front and members of the Executive Committee of the Syriza Party, where the Sahrawi delegation briefed the members of the party on the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue and the new situation on the ground in addition to the serious human rights crisis in Western Sahara.
The Sahrawi delegation stressed, in this regard, the urgent need for the international community to move towards putting pressure on the Moroccan occupation in order to comply with international legitimacy and put an end to obstructing the decolonization of Western Sahara in order to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination and independence.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the European Forum held in the Greek capital, Athens, in which a delegation representing the Polisario Front, led by Abdullah Al-Arabi, the representative of the Polisario Front in Spain, accompanied by Basiri Moulay A-Hasan, member of the Polisario Front’s representation in Europe, took part in its activities.
