President of Republic arrives in Pretoria on state visit to Republic of South Africa

Pretoria (South Africa), 17 October 2022 (SPS) -  President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, arrived Monday in Pretoria at the beginning of a state visit to the Republic of South Africa, starting from Tuesday at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The President of the Republic was received at the airport by Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, and Mr Fadl Nacerodien, Chief Director at the Policy Research and Analysis Unit of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

At his presidential residence, President Brahim Ghali held talks with the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, who emphasized the position of South African on the just Sahrawi cause.

The Minister stressed the willingness of her ministerial department to accompany the Sahrawi people, noting that this support stems from the principled position of South Africa towards the Sahrawi people and its just cause.

During the first day of the official visit, which will start on Tuesday, President Brahim Ghali will hold private talks with his counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa on bilateral relations between the two countries, the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue and issues of common interest.

The talks will expand to include the delegations of the two countries, a press conference will be held, and eventually President Ramaphosa will hold a luncheon in honor of President Ibrahim Ghali and his accompanying delegation.

The Republic of South Africa has recognized the SADR since September 2004 and established diplomatic relations with it at the ambassadorial level.

The President of the Republic is accompanied by an important delegation that included Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Minister of Cooperation, Fatima Mehdi, Minister of Social Affairs and Promotion of Women, Sweilma Berouk, National Director of Security, Documentation and Protection of Institutions, Sidi Okal, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Abdati Breika, Central Director of Operations and Inspection at the Ministry of National Defence, Abba Sheikh Mohamed, Ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Yeslem Beiset.
