Moroccan occupation authorities arrest Sahrawi activist Jamal Akredash

Guelmim (Southern Morocco), October 02, 2022 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation authorities arrested Saturday Saharawi activist and militant Jamal Akredash in the southern Moroccan city of Guelmim.

The family of the activist, in contact with the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Serious Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State, confirmed that his arrest came after going to the so-called police commission in the city, to ask about the fate of his nephew, who had been arrested earlier that night, and as soon as he entered the aforementioned police headquarters, he was arrested.

The family indicated that this arrest came under an old search warrant, against the background of the media and human rights activity of Jamal Akridash, head of the Media Observatory for Documenting Human Rights Violations.

The situation and circumstances of the Sahrawi human rights activist remain unknown to his family, which has not been informed of his arrest or of the charges against him.
