New York (United Nations), 26 September 2022 (SPS) - Algerian Foreign Minister, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, reiterated Algeria's firm position towards the inalienable right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination, calling on the United Nations to intensify its efforts to find a final solution to the conflict that would enable the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
In his address before the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the head of the Algerian diplomacy said, "Algeria reaffirms its support for the right of the brotherly people of Western Sahara to end the occupation of their country and to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence."
Mr. Ramtane Lamamra called on the United Nations to intensify its efforts through the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, in order to enable the two parties to the conflict, the two member states of the African Union, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, to resume direct negotiations with the aim of achieving a political solution acceptable to both parties within the framework of international legitimacy.
