European General Court annuls EU trade and fishing agreements with Morocco

Submitted on

Luxembourg, Sept 29, 2021 (SPS) - In a historic ruling whose implications will go beyond the economic, the General Court of the European Union has declared this Wednesday, September 29, illegal the commercial and fishing agreements signed between Brussels and Morocco in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for illegally including Western Sahara, the last non-autonomous territory in Africa that has waited for decades to exercise its recognized right to self-determination.
The order thus gives the reason to the Frente POLISARIO, which appealed to the European justice two agreements under the premise that raw materials were being exploited from a territory that is not under Alawite sovereignty.SPS
