Panama, 20 June 2021 (SPS) - The participants in the 34th World Congress of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) reelected Friday the Union of Sahrawi Youth (UJSARIO) as Vice President of the International Organization, for the fifth time in a row.
The participants in the IUSY 34th World Congress also endorsed a motion in which they expressed their unconditional support for the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom, and their rejection of any attempt to deprive it of its inalienable right to self-determination.
They called on the United Nations to fulfil its responsibilities to protect the people of Western Sahara from any unilateral action or steps that would undermine their territorial integrity or violate their sovereignty over their natural resources as stipulated in Chapter 11 of the Charter of the United Nations.
They also stressed the need to stop the plundering of the natural resources of Western Sahara and to refrain from trading with Morocco in products originating in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
They called for expanding the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring and to ensure the possibilities for immediate and unrestricted documentation of human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by independent organizations and observers.
