Mauritius MM congratulates Saharawi people for 45th anniversary of SADR and reiterates support to Saharawi just struggle for freedom

Port Luis (Mauritius) 01 March 2021 (SPS)- The Leader of the Mauritius Militant Movement (MMM) and former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr. Paul Bérenger, congratulated the Saharawi Government and people for the 45th anniversary of the Saharawi Republic, widely celebrated last 27 February, stressing the steadfast support to the just struggle of Saharawi people for freedom and independence.

In a letter he addressed to the Saharawi leadership on the occasion, the leader of the MMM saluted “the commitment and stoicism of the valiant Saharawi people throughout their struggle,” affirming that his party remains “fully supportive of their quest for a rightful, independent place in the concert of Nations.”

The MMM, he recalled, “has always stoop up for its principles and values, including the emancipation of all oppressed peoples and the liberation of all illegally occupied territories around the globe.”

It is for this reason, he adds, that his party “recognised the Polisario Front right from the outset and other such liberation organisations, including the ANC and SWAPO, among others.”

He further recalled that “upon assuming power in 1982, we officially recognised the SADR. We have always maintained that official status and ensure that it is upheld, even while in opposition.”

Faithful to this shared history, the leader of the MMM asserted that his party “shall not deviate from that position and we shall continue to support our brothers and sisters in the Western Sahara in their just struggle.” (SPS)
